Anyone know of the bean bag toss game played in and around Chicago?
We're trying to find measurements for the boxes and the bags, the weight of the bags, and the distance between the boxes. We made a set last year from measurements we found on-line for the "officail corn toss" game. But, they seem too big. It's just not right. I have NO desire to spend over $75 for a set from someone else when we can make it ourselves for less than $25!!!
What do you call the game? I've heard it called many different names.
It has a rectangle top and only one hole per box.
We've played it most at outdoor parties and when we tailgate at White Sox and Bears games. I've even seen it popping up at bars where they have leagues and tournaments. I seem to never remember to bring a tape measure with me to the bar!!
Holy cow, Fred. 60 feet apart?!? We play 30-33 feet hole to hole! And 2 pound bags?!? We play with 1 pond bags!! You and the people you play with must have some giant arm muscles!!
I've played it at Michigan Tech and we call it "bags". The boxes are roughly 3.5 feet from front to back by 2 feet from side to side by 4 inches in the front sloping up to about 9 inches in the rear with a 7 inch diameter hole centered from side to side and about 7 inches from the rear edge. the bags are simply pouches that are pretty durable if made from jeans or a similar fabric and filled with small rocks or popcorn weighing about 2 pounds or so. you will need 8 bags total, 4 for two teams of two players each. Players alternate throws just like in horseshoes. A bag landing on the box surface counts for one point, a bag landing in the hole counts for three points. Points cancel out if a player from each team lands a bag on the surface or in the hole in the same turn. Bags that roll onto the box surface do not count for scoring. If you knock any bag off the surface, whether it's yours or the other team's, it does not count for scoring. You play to 21 winning by 2 points. As far as a distance between the boxes, they should be at a distance not too far to hit the boxes, but not too close to not make it challenging…it depends on who is playing I guess. We play with the boxes about 60 feet apart, but again, it depends on the individuals playing. I hope this helps.

I don't think its just an "around Chicago" game anymore although I did first play it in Chicago. Wierd. Anyway, here is a link from eHow on how they say to do it. I've never heard of anyone making official rules on distance between boards though. My family calls it "The Beanbag Toss Game."

The game is called Corn Hole. It is a very old game dating back to early settler times I believe. Google Corn Hole Rules or what not on Google and you will find all you need. There are many makers of official Corn Hole pieces as well.
